How to Plant you Bare-Root Roses

Besides the rain that sometimes slows our process down, our season is going well and we are now getting ready to start shipping out your order; to help you plant your new rose, we’ve prepared for you a step-by-step process of what to do when you receive it in the mail.

1. Soak your rose for 24 hours in a bucket full of water.
2. Dig a 30x30x30cm hole where you want your rose planted, fill it with water and let it drain.
3. Put the rose in the hole with a small mound of loose dirt at the bottom; make sure the roots are pointing downwards, and the plant is deep enough that the bud union will be just above ground level.
4. Backfill with the dirt until the roots are covered, bud union should sit just above the soil. Compact the dirt to secure the rose.
5. Prune back the length of the rose’s branches by half (this can be also done before planting).
6. Flood the rose, giving the plant a very good drink of water; you can fill up again as soon as it’s drained.
7. Add your mulch if it’s a good time for your area; if the soil is still too wet and heavy, then wait until spring.
