Every year, we update the big selection of roses that we grow, and we add several new varieties - roses that have just been introduced to the Australian market and we think will have all the potentials to bring something different and unique to our magic world of roses. At the same time though, we reconsider some varieties that haven’t been sold well in the last couple of years, and we decide what will be deleted from our catalogue. For 2023, we’ve managed to delete around 100 varieties – which is really a lot for us! And among the many roses that we’ll stop growing next year, there are several David Austin creations.
A few years ago, the English breeder decided to retire from the international market some of their varieties that, according to their reports and controls, didn’t reach the high standards they excepted, even if some of these varieties are very popular in Australia and sell very well. Many of our customers will be disappointed to know that popular David Austin varieties like Ambridge Rose, Charlotte, Claire Rose, Cymbeline, Chaucer, Eglantyne, Evelyn, Glamis Castle, Falstaff, Happy Child, Lilian Austin, LD Braithwaite, Othello, Pat Austin, Pretty Jessica, Radio Times, Sharifa Asma, St Cecilia, Sweet Juliet, Tamora, The Dark Lady, The Prince, Wife of Bath, William Morris and William Shakespeare 2000 will no longer be grown and will be deleted from our budding program.
Some of the other varieties that we won’t grow next year are About Face, Dune Clg, Floriana, Garden Delight, Golden Eye, Hokey Pokey, Imperatrice Farah, Linked Hearts, Mitsouko, Our Amanda, Pinkie, Playgirl, Shoking Blue, Sundance and more.
We still have plants of these varieties in the field, budded last year and ready to be sold in winter 2023 as 2-year-old roses, so we have created a collection called “Last Chance” including all of them. Now will be the last chance to pre-order these varieties, to make sure you won’t miss out. Once sold out on our website, that will be it.
