We cannot wait up to January... We really want to share some of the 2023 releases we've just selected for you

What's New for 2023?

And in the blink of an eye... It's Summer! Without seeing any Spring signs, we directly went from winter to... a summery winter? We don't really know how to call it anymore.

Hopefully the days will get warmer soon to boost the growth in our gardens; plants and flowers are asking for more sun, and rose growers like us need to start budding the new plants for next year.

In the meantime, while we were praying for warmer weather, we have been busy finalising our 2023 Catalogue, selecting the New Releases and taking orders for next year bare root plants.

In the field, we have prepared the rootstock for budding season, sprayed, weeded, mowed and fertilised as usual.

We never have a dull moment here at the nursery!

Our promotion for bare root roses with the prices locked to 2022 season is still available and will be finishing 31st December. We'll then update our price list in January.

Our potted roses are looking great and are ready to go to a new home, if you cannot wait until next winter or you need a lovely gift for a special person.

Bare Root Roses Collection

Born in Italy - Grown in Australia

We are thrilled to announce that we're now the sole Australian agent for the Italian breeder Rose Barni®.

Rose Barni® is a family business growing and breeding roses since 1882 in the beautiful Tuscany region. Their brand is very well-known in all of Europe for the great quality of their creations and for the high prestige awards received over the years.

Important awards have been received in Australia as well, with varieties being entered in the National Rose Trial Garden of Australia in the past few years and being noticed by the judges for their excellent qualities.

Among the many Barni varieties, we are growing in the field, we have selected the first 5 to hit the Australian market, and we are confident you'll love them as much as we do.

COMETA

An exceptional groundcover, creating a carpet of pure white clusters of flowers that will remind you of a comet’s tail (Cometa in Italian).

Its small blooms are repeat flowering throughout spring, summer and autumn and they will look great in a vase.

It’s a very strong and healthy plant, with a good spreading habit and a nice fragrance. It grows up to 30-40cm high.

Winner of Bronze Medal and Best Ground Cover trophy at the National Rose Trial Garden of Australia in 2021, and other major awards in Europe.

DELIZIA

Bees seem to love this healthy and compact ground cover (in Italian, Delizia means delight).

The colour is quite unusual for this type of rose – a bright, deep pink – flowers are double and cupped shaped and they will look beautiful in a vase. The foliage is dark and glossy, and the fragrance is sweet.

It repeats flowering and it would look great along a border or cascading from a low wall.

Received a Certificate of Merit at the National Rose Trial Garden of Australia in 2021.

LUCCIOLA

Like a firefly (Lucciola in Italian), the yellow of this beautiful miniature rose is bright and sharp, of an intense colour that doesn’t fade with age.

The foliage is semi-gloss, and the plant is very healthy and repeats flowering.

It grows up to 40-50cm high, and it’s compact and vigorous.

MARIANGELA

Named after the popular Italian actress Mariangela Melato, this is one of the best white rose varieties we have ever grown.

Its beautiful large flowers open in an old-fashioned shape with petals of pure white; foliage is intense bright green, with large leaves and very disease resistant; the growth is upright - up to 100cm high - and the fragrance is very strong.

Perfect as a cut flower.

Winner of Silver Medal at the National Rose Trial Garden of Australia in 2021, and other important awards in Europe.

PAOLO

This is a unique floribunda, with beautiful cupped shaped flowers of warm yellow and apricot shades.

Named after the acclaimed Italian architect and landscaper designer Paolo Pejrone, this variety has a compact growth - up to 90cm high – and is very disease resistant; it repeats flowering through the seasons and has a delicate fragrance.

Winner of Bronze Medal at the National Rose Trial Garden of Australia in 2022, and several important awards in Europe.

All BARNI roses can be pre-ordered now as bare root plants, for delivery next winter.

The best way to remember Bruce

One of the best and experienced Australian rose breeders - Bruce Brundrett - sadly passed away last 11th November, leaving a big gap in our rose community. With his family, we have decided to name one of his beautiful creations after him and his passion, and add to our 2023 Catalogue.

Bruce's Dream sounded great for a rose named after a man who devoted all his life to roses and worked hard to create the perfect one.

Its classic shaped buds open to reveal intense yellow/apricot petals that slowly fade to a cream colour. The foliage is dark green with large leaves and the plant is very healthy and disease resistant. It’s a perfect variety for cut flowers.

Fragrance is moderate and height is approx. 120cm.

Bruce's Dream won Bronze Medal and the Hamilton Gardens NZ Perpetual Challenge Award for the best Hybrid Tea of the Trial in 2018, and has always been one of Bruce's favorites, among his many creations.
