It's time to order bare root roses

And here we are! Starting another busy digging season and working on the bare root roses that you are waiting for.

The good news is that backpackers are finally back in the country, keen to experience some farm work and to know more about Australia.

One of the reasons we love digging season is the young and multi-ethnic team we can work with, and the different accents we can hear in the field. This year we have a beautiful group of Irish, French, Germans, Argentinians and Italians... A lot of fun!

Many jobs will keep us busy for the next four months, besides pulling up the plants that will be posted between mid-July and August.

Follow us on our Social Media to know what's happening at the nursery, and don't forget to place your bare root order soon - there still are many varieties available on our website, waiting for you.

How to choose the right spot

If you are thinking to design a new rose bed in your garden, please consider the characteristics listed below, because roses need the right spot to grow well and give you many blooms to enjoy.

  • Do not plant roses next to trees or big shrubs, as roses' roots like to spread as much as they can
  • Do not plant roses in shade: roses need at least 6-8 hours of sunlight every day
  • Check the soil of your garden: roses like slight acidic soil, with pH 6.5
  • Do not plant roses in gravel, rocks, pebbles or compact ground (we saw that so many times...)
  • Make sure the soil is well drained - do not plant roses in it if it's too sandy or too sodden
  • Do not put different varieties of roses too close to each other: plant them at least 1m apart to achieve the best effect
  • Do not replace an old rose with a new one, unless you change the soil around the old plant

A colour for every mood

We know how colours and lights have a big impact on our moods, so remember to choose the roses according to what you want to achieve.

For a relaxing environment, perfect refuge for gardeners with a busy life who need to find their calming spot, choose one colour only, that blends well with the trees and the other plants - white and cream for an elegant and formal effect; pink and light purple for a more romantic feeling; red and darker shades for a more noticeable garden and to "reduce" large spaces; bright yellow and orange for a more vibrant and energetic garden.

Mixing varieties and colour shades will lift your spirit and be a lot of fun too, but to avoid a feeling of chaos, blue or mauve flowering groundcovers around the roses can create a more uniform and balanced effect.
